25 Things Coloradans Do, Say That Other States Think Are Weird

Every state has its quirks, and Colorado is no exception. It's not a bad thing, though — each "quirk" is what makes the Centennial State unique.

I first noticed these idiosyncrasies when I moved to Colorado from North Dakota in 2008. For example, I couldn't believe that Coloradans referred to Coca-Cola as "soda." Back in Bismarck, it's called "pop." Soda-sayers are considered pretentious there.

I was also shocked to see just how lightly Coloradans took the winter weather. In North Dakota, I had to bring my winter coat, hat, snow boots, and snow pants to school to be allowed outside for recess (to be fair, we did have to go outside unless it was colder than -12° F).

When I got to Colorado, kids were wearing hoodies and tennis shoes in the snow. Although again, to be fair, recess got called off when temperatures dipped into the '20s.

Still, perhaps my North Dakota roots reflect more on my home state's quirks than on Colorado's. So I asked you: what is considered normal in Colorado, that's not considered normal elsewhere?

Surprisingly, no one even mentioned the marijuana thing. From how we pronounce the word "Poudre" to our obsession with putting green chile on everything, here are 25 things Coloradans do and say that other states think are weird:
