The Broomfield Police Department (BPD) is looking for a man who allegedly stole around $9,000 worth of jewelry from a local Macy's on Thursday (April 22).

According to FOX31, the incident occurred just before noon in the Flatiron Crossing mall, when the man used an ax to break into a jewelry case.

An anonymous witness told the station that she originally thought the suspect had opened fire, stating: "We didn't know really what it was...I thought it was a gunman. It definitely sounded like gunshots."

Despite employees' attempts to stop the man, he escaped in a dark vehicle with five expensive jewelry items. Thankfully, he did not injure anyone during the theft.

If you have any information about this case, the BPD is asking that you leave an anonymous tip with their partners at Metro Denver Crime Stoppers by calling (720) 913-7867.
