What’s the Deal with the Upside Down Buc-ee’s Billboard on I-25?

Since the announcement of mega gas station Buc-ee's coming to Colorado, there has been a buzz about the gas station. Most are excited to have a Buc-ee's in Colorado, while some are not too happy about the idea of a gigantic gas station.

Have you seen this billboard on the east side of Interstate 25 in Johnstown? It is a Buc-ee's billboard about a mile north of where the Buc-ee's will be constructed and is expected to open in 2023.

However, this billboard is a tad bit different due to the fact that the placement is upside down. The Buc-ee's billboard appears to be located on the property of the Colorado Boat Center at 3850 SE Frontage Road.

Does the Upside Down Billboard Mean Something?

Some residents of Colorado seem not to like the idea of the mega gas station chain coming to Colorado. Various Facebook users have expressed disdain for the gas station and how it may affect a local truck stop, Johnson's Corner. Other comments that I have personally seen on Facebook give off the sentiment of "don't Texas my Colorado".

Could the upside-down billboard convey a sign of distress? According to the Department of Defense, the U.S. National Flag Code was created in 1923 and became public law in 1942.  The U.S. National Flag Code states that the flag should only be displayed upside down under certain circumstances of distress and great danger.

Could it be that someone who purchased the billboard is trying to make a statement to Buc-ee's or is it a simple mistake that the billboard was put in place upside down? We're not entirely sure. I do know that the peculiar billboard did catch my eye and captured my attention enough for me to take a photo of it.
