A young woman was left heartbroken on Friday (April 16) after someone stole her vehicle and her 15-year-old dog in Westminster.

According to a Facebook post from the Westminster Police Department (WPD), the incident occurred around 4:36 p.m. near the Tropical Smoothie Café at West 73rd Ave. and Federal Blvd. when someone took off with her navy blue Subaru Forester, which had her basset hound/beagle mix Solo inside.

Denver7 reports that the woman, Caroline Wilson, was not present during the theft. She was at work when her friends, who were watching her dog, left the car running while they went to pick up smoothies.

When they were inside, a man hopped into the vehicle and drove away.

"It was a minute. They were in for a minute, not even," Wilson told the station. "I really didn't think this would happen to me, and I wouldn't want anybody else to go through something like this because it's awful."

WPD's post said that Wilson has had Solo since she was five years old, and asked the perpetrator to "please keep the dog safe and do the right thing and turn it over to someone who can call police once you're gone and ensure its safe return to her owner."

Wilson's vehicle has yellow North Carolina license plates bearing the number 42M1BP. Solo is not chipped and is not wearing a collar.

Up to $2,000 is being offered to anyone who can help solve the case. To report information, call WPD at (303) 658-4360 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867.
