Colorado Avalanche Honor Boulder Victims with Special Jerseys
Communities across Colorado have come together over the past week, showing their support for Boulder, and the victims involved in the mass shooting that occurred at King Soopers on March 22.
Professional athletes are also honoring the victims in various ways. During a media session on Tuesday, Denver Nuggets coach, Michael Malone, broke down in tears as he read aloud the names of those who tragically died in the massacre.
The Colorado Avalanche paid tribute to Boulder by wearing special jerseys during their warm-up before Thursday's home game against the Las Vegas Golden Knights. The uniforms all featured the number 10, in honor of the ten people whose lives were lost. Instead of the players' last names, the jerseys had the words "Boulder Strong" across the top.
According to Denver 7 News, the team will auction these special jerseys off, with all proceeds going towards the Colorado Healing Fund. Each jersey will be signed by the player who was wearing it.
The Colorado Healing Fund provides victims with both immediate and long-term support. King Soopers announced that they will be donating $1 million to the fund.
The auction kicks off Monday, March 29 and runs through Thursday, April 1 at 8 p.m.
