Contraband Possession in Larimer County Jail Leads to Medical Emergency

A medical emergency in the Larimer County Jail on Thursday resulted in additional allegations against inmate Matthew Bird, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office reported on July 23, 2021.

On July 22 at about 6:30 p.m., jail staff was notified that an inmate, later identified as Bird, was not breathing. Staff initiated life-saving procedures and even used several doses of Narcan to revive the inmate. They were able to resuscitate Bird and transport him to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

During the medical event, deputies found substances on Bird's bunk that presumptively tested positive for methamphetamine. Other unknown pills were also a part of the discovered contraband.

Police did bring in a K9 for further investigation, but did not locate any additional contraband.

According to the media release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Bird is facing First Degree Introduction of Contraband and Possession of a Controlled Substance allegations. Since receiving hospital treatment, Bird has reentered the Larimer County Jail.
