The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating an incident that occurred at a Fort Collins hotel on Wednesday (March 3), and resulted in three individuals being treated for injuries.

According to a press release from the LCSO, officers responded at approximately 7:22 a.m. to a disturbance in progress at the Clarion Inn, located at 3836 East Mulberry Street in Fort Collins.

Inside the lobby of the hotel, several witnesses observed a male physically attacking a woman. Two men and three to four women attempted to intervene and help the victim during the attack. The bystanders were eventually able to subdue the male attacker and deputies then took him into custody.

The 43-year-old transient male responsible for the assault was then taken to a local hospital where he later passed away. His cause and manner of death will be released by the Larimer County Coroner's office at a later time.

The 34-year-old female victim was woman transported to a local hospital from the scene. She has now been transferred to a Denver metro area hospital for further treatment of her injuries.

A third adult was treated for injuries by medical personnel on scene.

Law enforcement remained at the Clarion Inn for several hours following the disturbance, and the investigation is still ongoing. LCSO investigators are working closely with the coroner’s office to examine forensic evidence collected at the scene.

Police noted there is no known threat to the public.

The East Mulberry corridor is no stranger to crime, with frequent cases of drug overdoses, human trafficking, thefts, and suicides occurring within the vicinity. According to the Coloradoan, the area has one of the highest rates of crime in Larimer County. The Coloradoan also reported that during the 2019-20 year, law enforcement received 7,148 calls to this specific area.

Located just off I-25, the corridor includes commercial businesses, 10 hotels and motels, restaurants, residential neighborhoods, and several vacant lots.

There has been recent talk of the city of Fort Collins choosing to annex the entire area. If this should happen, codes would be created that are aimed to reduce criminal activity, and other elements such as improved lighting, landscaping and sidewalks would also be implemented.
