It is the fifth most popular beverage across the country, behind coffee, water, pop, and tea. Colorado enjoys its fair share of beer, for sure, but other states beat us out.

Wil you be having a beer tonight? According to recent research into the 2020 numbers, the answer is a definite 'maybe.' They also looked at what Colorado's favorite beer is, and you might find that surprising as well.

With Colorado having over 560 breweries across the state, it's clear that Coloradans have a mile high thirst for beer. Could it come from Colorado's long history of making beer, with Coors in Golden dating back to 1873?

With all the craft breweries in the Fort Collis area alone, many find it a great past-time to check them all out. Different breweries mean different beers, but in the end it's all beer. Whether we're enjoying a Bud Light, a VooDoo Ranger, or a Juicy Bits, Coloradans really do like to 'kick back' with a 'cold one.'

VisualCapitalist.com recently released research data that shows the average Coloradan drinks just over 28 gallons of beer every year. When you look at as how many pints in year, it's 224; if you look at as in how many 12 oz. cans of beer, it's about 280.

My favorite beer is an IPA; not to digress, but my favorite IPA around Fort Collins these days is the Mosquito Citrus IPA at Rock Coast in Loveland. There is something very satisfying about a cold domestic, though too.

The research also found that Colorado's favorite beer comes out of Denver; Denver Beer Company, to be exact. That place is great; I highly recommend stopping in there for a beer when you have the opportunity.

Looking a numbers from across America when it comes to beer you find:

  • Wyoming consumes 29.8 gallons per year.
  • New Hampshire consumes the most, at 41.5 gallons.
  • Maryland consumes the least at 19.7 gallons.
