Fort Collins Police Dispatcher Helps Deliver Baby Over the Phone
From saving lives to proactive policing, law enforcement officers are faced with a range of different scenarios while on duty each day and don't always know what to expect — but the 911 dispatchers behind the scenes also play a pivotal role in helping with these situations too.
Last week, a dispatcher named Megan with the Fort Collins Police Department was put in an exciting, yet nerve-wracking position, when she helped a local resident deliver her baby over the phone.
According to Fort Collins Police, a woman had gone into labor with her second child but didn't think she'd be able to make it to the hospital in time before the newest family member would make an appearance. As they say, a mother's instinct is always right, and it's a good thing she called 911 when she did because that baby was ready to enter the world at that very moment.
Megan calmly navigated the woman through the entire process and successfully helped deliver the newborn from beginning to end just with her words.
The baby was completely out and already bundled up in blankets when fire/medical personnel arrived at the scene.
