Freezing temperatures are on their way in Colorado and with it comes the risk of frozen pipes. Here are some ways to prevent and avoid frozen pipes in your home.

Winters in Colorado are a super mixed bag of "wow, it feels like spring" to "oh my god, I can't feel my face," Having lived here my entire life, I've done my best to adjust to the ups and down temperatures and weather conditions that come with our 3oo+ days of sunshine each and every year. We haven't had much super cold weather this winter but it's dropping below 0 multiple nights this week and your home's pipes are not huge fans of these freezing temps. As the old saying goes "failure to prepare is preparing to fail" so here are some tips to make sure you're prepared for these forthcoming freezing Colorado temps.

• Keep your thermostat no lower than 65 degrees.
• Drain any pipes, not in use (sprinkler pipes, etc.)
• Insulate exposed pipes (I'll typically wrap exposed pips outside in blankets)
• Open cabinet doors in kitchen and bathrooms
• Let your faucets drip
• Shut off your water main if traveling in the winter

Frozen temps are a pain but having a flood in your house from frozen pipes could be a nightmare. I've seen entire basements completely ruined over the years with all sorts of priceless items in storage areas completely destroyed. Be prepared for the freezing temps NoCo and avoid the drama.
