Police Say Bones Found Near Crestone Are Not Those of Missing Colorado Woman

When police announced the discovery of human remains near Crestone, Colorado, many began to wonder if they belonged to missing Colorado woman Suzanne Morphew.

However, law enforcement says this is not the case.

According to a press release from the Saguache County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), someone told officers that they found "possible human bones" in an area near the North Crestone Campground on Monday (April 25).

When police arrived at the scene, they confirmed that the bones, which were burned and mixed with ash, were likely human remains.

As of Tuesday (April 26), the SCSO and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) noted that, while investigators haven't yet identified the remains as human, "it is not believed that the bones are of Suzanne Morphew or Kristal Reisinger."

Suzanne Morphew disappeared from her home on May 10, 2020. Prosecutors have since dismissed murder charges against her husband, Barry Morphew, because they believe they are close to locating Suzanne's body.

In the April 19 dismissal filing, District Attorney for the 11th Judicial District Linda Stanley stated that law enforcement believes Suzanne's remains are near the Morphews' Chaffee County residence.

According to the CBI, Kristal Reisinger disappeared from Crestone on July 14, 2016. Her disappearance became widely known when her case was the subject of the second season of "Up and Vanished," a popular true-crime podcast.
