Colorado’s Major Gun Law Change in 2025: What You Need to Know
Many new laws and policies in Colorado will take effect in 2025. For example, a new law will tighten restrictions on using your phone while driving in Colorado.
In 2025, you can not hold your phone while driving. The first offense will result in a $75 fine. New laws regarding child safety seats will also take effect. The state of Colorado is raising the age requirement for a booster seat to nine years old as well as raising the age for rear-facing car seat requirements.
Of course, more laws have been passed. There is a new law that many gun owners in Colorado will need to know about.
New Gun Law in Colorado for 2025
Colorado's new law, HB-1348, will become law on January 1, 2025. The law primarily concerns transporting a weapon in a vehicle, and new laws and restrictions will ensure that a firearm is stored safely in a vehicle.
Regarding handguns, HB-1348, states that handguns must be locked in a hard-sided container that is out of sight when it is left in an unattended vehicle.

There is a similar new law for all firearms. The law states that all other firearms that are not handguns have to be stored in at least a locked hard or soft-sided container.
Exceptions for New Colorado Law
There are exceptions to the new law. The exceptions are antique guns, Colorado residents who live in their vehicles, hunting, vehicles used for farming or ranching, and law enforcement.
If a person does not follow the law and does not meet the criteria for an exception, it will be a civil infraction.
