Do Colorado Landlords Love or Hate Pets? Here’s What the Data Says
I think we can all agree on the fact that Colorado is a great place to be a pet owner. There are countless outdoor activities to do with your pet, the veterinary care is exceptional, and there are plenty of local businesses around to ensure that you can spoil your pet rotten.
Colorado is extremely pet-friendly, but the city of Northglenn just established new regulations regarding the number of pets you can have in your home.
Northglenn residents will now only be allowed to have four pets in their homes, with special exceptions, beginning on August 1.

Also, we recently learned that Coloradans prefer dogs to cats. Can I chime in? I love and have both. Is Colorado a good state to have a pet if you are a renter? Definitely.
Colorado Landlords and Your Pets
Dog Friendly Co analyzed rental data from Zillow and determined which states are the most pet-friendly for renters. They gathered their results and ranked the states based on the listings that allow all types of pets.
The data determined that Colorado is the most pet-friendly state in the entire nation for renters. I am a renter here in Colorado.
I have not run into any issues whatsoever in finding a home that accepts my pets.
Dog Friendly Co looked at nearly 40,000 listings and discovered that nearly 30,000 listings were pet-friendly. This means that over 75 percent of rental properties in Colorado are happy to welcome your dogs, cats, or other furry friends.
Colorado vs. the Rest of the Nation
The rest of the nation’s landlords are accepting of pets. Hawaii is by far the least friendly state to renters with pets. Only 16 percent of listings allow pets.
One Complaint About Renting with Pets
Many Coloradans have to pay for their pet monthly. I am one of those renters. I paid a deposit for each pet, then on top of that, I had to pay an extra $30 per pet.
You are probably familiar with pet rent as well. I understand paying a deposit, but I disagree with paying additional monthly rent just because you have pets.
I was never charged for additional pet rent until two years ago.
