When you shop online from Amazon or other online stores it is common to opt in for shipping updates. You will either receive notifications on an app or be notified via text message.

Be careful when you receive texts regarding packages coming to your home. It could very well be a scam.

The United States Postal Service has sent a scam alert regarding package tracking text scams, also known as smishing. Here is what they said.

Smishing is a form of phishing that involves a text message or phone number. Victims will typically receive a deceptive text message that is intended to lure the recipient into providing their personal or financial information.

Often these links will have you fill out personal information. There have been thousands of instances where people have given sensitive information such as credit card numbers, birth dates, and even social security numbers.

Never click on links from suspicious numbers. The official text tracking number from USPS is 28777.
