For the past few months, one of the most talked about topics in Loveland has been the changes to how they tackle homelessness and the unhoused.

Loveland Closes Temporary Homeless Shelter on Railroad Avenue

Last October, the City of Loveland closed down its temporary homeless overnight shelter located along Railroad Avenue.

This facility had been up and running for two years, but funding had run out, according to reports.

FEMA-Grade Tents Set Up Behind Loveland Resource Center

In December of last year, the City of Loveland had set up forty-two overnight spaces using FEMA-grade tents right behind the Loveland Resource Center, according to an earlier report.

Loveland Resource Center Receives Temporary Overnight Shelter Permit

Officials from the Loveland Resource Center were able to attain a permit so that their space could be an overnight shelter for thirty days.

That was in October.

The city actually extended the permit through March 15th of this year.

City Council Considers Conditional Purchase for New Loveland Shelter

In early January, the City Council discussed a "conditional purchase" of a building on 71st street in Northwest Loveland.

In a statement from the city, this building would be used as an overnight shelter and resource center.

However, it would only move forward with the City Council's approval and if there was a qualified non-profit or operator behind it.

Bridge House Withdraws from Loveland Shelter Opportunity

On January 8th, the city reportedly received two requests for applications from Bridge House and Krucial Rapid Response, Inc.

After city officials were able to determine that Bridge House was qualified to take on the building.

In a public statement, Loveland city officials said that Bridge House actually withdrew from consideration.

"Because we do not have a qualified operator and the conditions of the purchase have not been met, we have decided to remove the property purchase item from council consideration."

Loveland Resource Center to Permanently Close in April

This means that the deal is off and the Loveland Resource Center will permanently close on April 30th.

City officials say that they'll keep working with community partners, but after April, Loveland will no longer directly operate shelter services.
