Over 180 Cattle Disappear in Southwest Colorado
We can all agree that it would be highly possible for one or two cattle to wander off on a ranch. But how do dozens of them seem to vanish into thin air? That is exactly what happened in Colorado this week.
According to the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office, approximately 180 cattle in the Uncompahgre Plateau are missing. Currently, the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Brand Board are investigating the missing bovine as if they have possibly been stolen.
HOW MUCH IS A COW WORTH IN COLORADO?
If you have been to the grocery store recently and looked at the price of beef, you know that the meat isn’t cheap. Live beef cows can range from $2,500 to $3,000 each. With a price tag like that, the 180 missing/stolen cows are easily worth an approximate $450,000.
Could it be theft? Possibly. However, it would be mighty hard to wrangle up 180 cattle and get them shipped off of a rancher's property without anyone noticing.
Another theory is that aliens could be involved. How else could you possibly move that many cattle without the help of some sort of extra-terrestrial being? All jokes aside, theft of cattle is a serious business and the ranchers who have to endure that loss know that it is not pleasant.
The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public who might have any information on the whereabouts of the 180 missing cattle to contact the WestCo Dispatch at (970)249-9110.
