Just over two months after a tragic accident in Weld County, the victims families are finally getting answers.

Tragic Dairy Farm Accident in Weld County Claimed Six Lives

Back in late August, we shared with you the news of the deaths of six people on a dairy farm in Weld County.

On August 20th, 2025, officials from the Southeast Weld Fire District were called to Prospect Valley Dairy in Keenesburg to deal with a report of multiple individuals being trapped in a confined space.

While the first responders tried their best, the six people trapped, died in this ordeal.

Families and Community Mourn the Victims

Just about a week after the tragedy, we received information about the identity of these people.

The reports that followed confirmed that all six of the victims were males. One of the victims was a student at Highland High school. He was helping out his dad on the farm over the summer.

The teen, his older brother, and their father all died that day.

A post from Weld County School District RE-9 confirmed this information.

“This tragedy has deeply affected our school district and community,” district officials said in a statement on social media.

According to a report from Denver7 news, the ages of the victims ranged from 17 to 50.

Weld County Coroner Confirms Cause of Death

The initial report from the Weld County Coroner's office said that these men all died as a “result of gas exposure in a confined space.”

No further details were given back in August.

Hydrogen Sulfide Gas Exposure Confirmed as Deadly Cause

Now, officials have confirmed what truly caused the death of these six workers.

In a report from Denver 7 News, these men all died as a result of "hydrogen sulfide gas exposure."

This sort of gas is often found naturally in manure pits and can lead to almost instant death in high quantities, especially in confined spaces, experts say.
