Windsor Drive-by Shooting Suspect Arrested After Police Chase
A Public Safety Alert was sent out Thursday afternoon to the resident of Windsor, Colorado after a suspect in a drive-by shooting was on the loose. The incident took place in the 600 block of Gryfalcon Court in east Windsor at approximately 2:49 p.m. on March, 28.
The Windsor Police Department identified the suspect as 39-year-old Kyle Bertsch who was seen driving a 2017 Ford F-350 pickup truck. A short time after the initial incident, the suspect was reported brandishing a firearm at two motorists near the Intersand America Corp. building on Weld County Road 23 near Eastman Park Drive. The license plate of the truck in this incident matched the plate number of the vehicle belonging to Bertsch.
The Severance Police Department spotted Bertsch and a high-speed chase ensued after he failed to yield to officers. The chase of Bertsch lasted for nearly an hour in Northern Colorado and several law enforcement vehicles were damaged in the pursuit. The police departments of Severance, Eaton, and Ault all assisted in the incident.
The pursuit of Bertsch came to an end in a field in northern Weld County when the 2017 Ford F-350 became inoperable. The suspect then surrendered immediately to law enforcement and was taken into custody.
Bertsch has been charged with felonies that include attempted second-degree murder, two counts of menacing, possession of weapons by a previous offender, and misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and the violation of a protection order.
