Windsor is the Latest ‘Boomtown’ For Colorado – Here’s Why
The Town of Windsor was founded in 1890, though it dates back to the 1870s. If things keep going the way they seem to be going, the smaller Colorado town of Windsor may become the City of Windsor. For those that live in Windsor, the news is good and bad: it's great for the economy, but bad for keeping that "small town" feel.
Our radio stations broadcast from the corner of 6th Street and Main Street in Downtown Windsor. I, myself, have worked here for nearly 30 years as of 2025, and can attest to how the town has grown over the decades. Where once there was a "sleepy" little town that had a golf course on the western edge of town, today Windsor bustles with many more people living there, more businesses happening, and more golfing with four courses.
What Makes Windsor Colorado's 'Boomtown?'
According to Westword, a study of the years between 2015 and 2023 was done by GoBankingRates.com analyzing changes in population and income for cities with populations between 25,000 and 500,0000. That study found Windsor, Colorado seeing marked increases.

From the study:
- Windsor's population grew by a whopping 75%, to reach (in 2023) 35, 918. The 2024 population estimate is 44, 769. In 1997, when I first started working at the radio station, the population was about 7,000.
- The per capita income reached nearly $56,000; an increase of 52.5% over eight years.
- The number of occupied housing units rose by over 86%.
While Windsor has garnered the "Boomtown" rating, I think many would agree that it needs to embrace it's growth by having one or two larger restaurant/bars, such as an Austin's or Applebee's.
