Well, 2025 is off to a fast start in downtown Grand Junction. It only took ten days for someone to run into the post office downtown at 4th and White. According to News 11, the crash happened the morning of Friday, January 10th. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt and the damage to the building was minor.

There are two in Grand Junction, one in Fruita, Loma, Mack, Clifton, Palisade, Mesa, Collbran, Whitewater, Glade Park, De Beque, and Gateway. Grand Junction’s oldest post office is still in use today at 241 North 4th Street. Yup, the same building someone just hit with their car has been the post office for most of the city’s history. The post office in the Beaux-Arts style building has been where Grand Junction goes to send and receive mail for more than a century.

Another early post office in the county was the Glade Park Post Office, which opened in 1910 inside the Glade Park Store. The Post Office is now located further down D S Road and is a separate location from the Glade Park Store. Lastly, the original Gateway Post Office was opened in 1903, established and operated by Minnie Hall.

The trailer that houses the Glade Park Post Office on D S Road was established in 2011. The small building offers an expanded facility that was handicap accessible and provided additional post-office boxes and services.
