Adults carry a series of responsibilities, most of which don't allow for much free time - and if they do, that time is more than likely used to relax and/or sleep.

For the ones that have a little - or a lot - more time on their plate, this one's for you:

According to reports via 9News, the state legislature is going to consider extending the hours of operation for drinking establishments in Colorado; the proposed bill is set to be debated at the state Capitol next month.

If the bill were to be passed, those establishments with liquor licenses in Colorado would be permitted to extend their operating hours in one of two ways -

  • said establishments could open two hours earlier, and start serving liquor at 5 a.m. instead of 7 a.m.

  • said establishments could stay open two hours later, and continue operating until 4 a.m. instead of 2 a.m.

Currently, places with liquor licenses in Colorado are allowed to serve alcohol from 7 a.m. - 2 a.m.

Every proposed bill, especially one of this caliber, has its opponents and supporters - this proposal is no different.

9News spoke with two individuals - one who opposes the proposal and one who supports it; opponents of the proposal argue if the bill were to pass, it gives people an even bigger window of opportunity to be careless and/or reckless on the streets and on the roads (i.e: driving while drunk).

"We're concerned that having different bar times across the state could lead to people making decisions to drive from a bar that closes earlier to get to a bar that closes later, possibly making that bad choice to drive drunk.", an opponent of the proposed bill told 9News.

What kind of drinking establishment would willingly opt to open at 5 a.m. anyway, as opposed to staying open later?

Mark Berzins, founder of the Lil Pub Company which owns several bars in Denver said that many soccer fans in the area love to crowd his bar, the British Bulldog in the wee hours of the morning to watch their favorite teams play in matches all around the world.

"I don't think any of our places would take advantage of extended hours, on the evening end. None of my staff wants to work that late - but for the British Bulldog, I would love to be able to provide for my customers.. a little taste of home while they're watching their soccer team play."

On another note, he says the rush of bars closing all at the same time could also potentially lead to issues with too many people trying to get a ride home at once, an issue that would directly affect popular rideshares like Uber and Lyft.

So, what do you think?
