Driving around Northern Colorado, you start to notice things hidden in plain sight. Take license plates for instance. Seeing out-of-state plates stick out like a sore thumb most of the time. What about Colorado state plates that you might have never seen before or rarely see?

The state of Colorado has 40 different specialty plates that it offers to residents through the Colorado Department of Revenue. Some of these specialty plates you see on a daily basis like the Denver Broncos, Ski Country, Adopt a Shelter Pet, and Columbine plates.

Looking through the Colorado Department of Revenue's Group Special License Plate page, I have found quite a few that I have either rarely or have never seen before.

Colorado Specialty License Plates You Rarely See

These license plates are available, but rarely seen on the roads of Colorado.

Those are just a few of the license plates from Colorado that I have rarely if ever have seen on the roads of Colorado. There are many more, but these I believe are the rarest.

One of my all-time personal favorites is the Pueblo Green Chile plates:

The Pueblo Chile plate is available to anyone who wants to show off their spicy side and love of the Pueblo Chile. A one-time fee of $50 will get you this custom license plate for your vehicle or motorcycle.

Custom Alumni plates for the state of Colorado are also available too for the following Colorado Universities:

  • Air Force Academy
  • Colorado School of Mines
  • Colorado State University-Pueblo
  • Fort Lewis College
  • Regis University
  • University of Denver

  • Colorado State University
  • Colorado Mesa University
  • Metropolitan State University of Denver
  • University of Colorado
  • University of Northern Colorado
