Colorado is Home to the Tallest Sand Dune in North America

Southern Colorado is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America. Several of the massive dunes at Colorado's Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve stand above 700 feet, with Star Dune being the largest at 750 feet from base to crest.

That natural landmark attracts hundreds of visitors on an annual basis, and with everything this unique and scenic destination has to offer, it's easy to see why. Visitors are able to participate in fun adventures inside the park, including dune sledding, hiking, stargazing, and camping.

For outdoor enthusiasts who loved the Colorado dune experience so much, they now want to check out more dunes across the United States, there are multiple places to do so. None, however, will compare to the heights and sights of Colorado's towering dunes.
