Female Hiker Rescued in Conifer Hill After 24 Hours Lost

According to a release from the Boulder County Sheriff, a 69-year-old woman was rescued after being lost for approximately 24 hours after a hike in the area of Conifer Hill Road.

Boulder County deputies were the initial responders to the call on Sunday, Sept. 26 around 11:48 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, they were unable to locate the woman after an initial search around the area.

Deputies called canine teams, ground searchers, and unmanned aerial systems to aid in the search. After three hours, one of the canine teams heard someone calling for help. The call lead them to the missing woman.

The woman reported to officers that she set out on the hike on Friday, Sept. 24, was hiking off-trail and got lost after taking a wrong turn.

Luckily, the woman was uninjured, but was fatigued and dehydrated, as would be expected.

After she was rescued, searchers gave the woman food and water and she declined additional medical care once she felt better. Searchers then helped her back to her home.

Travel Boulder reminds people that one of the best ways to stay safe and accounted for while hiking is to stay on the trail. They say that while it's tempting, straying from the path is one of the most dangerous things a hiker can do.

In addition, always do your research before setting out on a hike, make sure someone knows where you are going and when to expect you back, and it's always better to be overprepared rather than underprepared.
