The City of Fort Collins Wants You to Talk Trash…Literally

Get ready to bust out your best trash talk, because the City of Fort Collins wants to hear it...literally.

In a Friday (June 3) press release, the City announced that it's considering adopting a contracted trash system, meaning a single trash hauler would service the whole city — currently, residents can choose their own trash company.

"Many communities in Colorado and across the U.S. have found that this type of system reduces the number of trucks in residential neighborhoods, provides a consistent price for all community members, and increases recycling and compost collection opportunities," read the release.

If the City does move to a contracted system (which is what Johnstown and Golden have), then officials would choose Fort Collins' new hauler via a competitive purchasing process.

Residents could still choose their own trash company by paying an opt-out fee.

However, the City doesn't want to make this change without hearing from you first. According to the release, residents can share their thoughts at two virtual events this month:

• 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 9
• 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 10
