Free Purple Ribbon Breakfast in Loveland to Address Rise in Domestic Violence Cases
Human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual assault are not the first things that come to mind when thinking about Northern Colorado, but should they be?
Since the pandemic, these cases have been on the rise, and one nonprofit has decided to take the call. Alternatives to Violence (ATV) will be hosting its Fifth Annual Purple Ribbon Breakfast Tuesday, April 26, at the Embassy Suites in Loveland. This free event, will help spread awareness with three key speakers including Loveland's Mayor Jackie Marsh.
ATV's Executive Director Kari Clark explained to "Tuned in to NoCo" that this breakfast is not just a fundraiser but a educational event as well.
"The more these people can share the experiences they've had, the more people can learn the difference and recognize abuse either amongst themselves or their friends and family, so, that they are then aware of how to get help for those they love."
Clark says Alternatives to Violence assists with emergency sheltering and permanent housing, and provides nonresidential advocates that can help guide survivors through the legal system.
"It doesn't matter your level of abuse, we're here to help you through it. We have advocates on staff 24/7 to help and assist folks"
Clark says that since the pandemic, ATV has increased its emergency shelter capacity and that by the end of the year the nonprofit will have 12 bedrooms and 32 beds available for the community..
