Ginger and Baker’s Rooftop Patio is Getting a Makeover

A Fort Collins property that's currently home to Ginger and Baker, but has been a part of the city's downtown landscape for more than 100 years, is about to undergo another major transformation.

The restaurant announced via social media this week that their rooftop patio will be closed until mid-November, while the outdoor area receives a makeover. Not only will this change allow the rooftop to be accessible all year-round, but once complete, it can also be booked for standalone parties and events, or in conjunction with the historic Milltop, which was previously not an option. Staff at Ginger and Baker also noticed more people wanting to sit outside during the pandemic, so this provides more room for that.

In order to convert the rooftop into an all-season space for dining and events, the project includes enclosing the patio with giant glass windows. All sides will open fully to the outdoors, but they can also be closed during the colder months when needed. Even with the windows being installed, guests will still get unobstructed views of the surrounding River District.

The new design was inspired by an arboretum, so the restaurant will be adding tons of plants, trees, and other lush greenery to the rooftop space. The big stone fireplace and bar itself will remain as the patio's focal points, and new custom furniture that compliments the arboretum vibe is being added. The rooftop will be equipped with full HVAC.

Because the building located at 359 Linden Street is on both the National Register of Historic Places and the State Register of Historic Properties, all of the project plans had to be pre-approved by the Fort Collins Historic Preservation Commission. The new rooftop space was designed by Fort Collins’ VFLA (Vaught Frye Larson Aronson Architects), who also completed the building's original renovation and expansion. The construction work is being taken care of by Northern Colorado’s Roche Constructors.

Ginger and Baker plans to host a grand re-opening party to celebrate the new rooftop patio sometime in mid-November. With sparkling lights and holiday décor, staff says the the patio will look like a giant snow globe.

Once re-open, the Rooftop will continue to function as part of The Cache restaurant, so guests can come up for a a craft cocktail or glass of wine and apps, as well as dine from the full menu.
