In an official update from the Weld County District Attorney's Office, a judge sentenced a Greeley man to 22 years in prison for the deadly hash oil explosion at a Greeley apartment back in March.

29-year-old Matthew Fry was reportedly extracting hash oil with butane from marijuana when the explosion happened.

Fry plead guilty to one count of manslaughter and one count of second-degree assault in June. In the explosion, one woman was killed and a man and woman were severely burned.

In the sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Patrick Costigan said:

It's an absolute tragedy that someone lost their life because of this reckless behavior. The other two victims who were severely injured will never be the same. Their lives are changed forever.

Judge Vincente Vigil, the judge who sentenced Fry, said the case "is exactly the reason why this is an illegal act" and emphasized the recklessness of the incident that resulted in tragedy.

Because of the nature and size of the explosion, several officials in the court say it's a miracle no one else was hurt or killed. DDA Costigan says this case serves as a strong example that there will be severe consequences if you kill people.
