Jefferson County Parents and Students Protest Over New District Mask Mandates
After Denver Public Schools announced on Aug. 3 that they will be requiring all students, staff and visitors to wear masks inside schools to start the school year, parents and students were not happy with the decision.
On Aug.4, Denver7 recorded footage of hundreds of students and parents outside the Jefferson County Public Health building to protest the mandates. The new rules require students ages 3 to 11 to wear masks, and recommend masks for students 12 and older.
Jefferson County Public Health is heavily encouraging any students ages 12 and up to get vaccinated before the school year. However, in accordance with Denver mandates for staff and faculty to be fully vaccinated before the end of September, masks will still be required regardless of vaccination status.
