A young man was injured after falling 30 feet while hiking in Boulder County.

According to an official news release via the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of a person who had fallen while scrambling on the First Flatiron in Chautauqua Park on Wednesday (May 5) at around noon.

A 19-year-old male was down climbing the back of the First Flatiron when he suddenly fell approximately 30 feet. His climbing partner heard him fall and immediately called 911 for assistance. Bystanders at the scene offered their assistance to provide first-aid and keep the injured climber warm until responders arrived on scene.

Members from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers were able to access the injured young man and provide additional medical care.

Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group packed the injured man into a litter, which was followed by a technical evacuation that was conducted to bring the injured climber out to the trailhead. The injured young man was met and evaluated at the trailhead by paramedics from American Medical Response. He was later transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

As per the news release, The rescue took approximately four hours.
