A woman is now facing assault charges after allegedly assaulting two hospital workers by kicking, biting, and spitting on them in an emergency room at a Weld County hospital late last month.

According to the Greeley Tribune, 58-year-old Evangelina Deovalle was a patient undergoing treatment in an emergency room at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley during the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 22.

As per arrest records, police say that it was a little after 2 p.m. that afternoon that Deovalle started to kick and attempted to bite emergency room workers. As staff members made an effort to restrain Deovalle, the patient reportedly continued to act out and tried to bite a paramedic.

During a post-incident conversation with Greeley Police, the paramedic involved in the incident reportedly told officials that he didn't know whether or not he was bit by Deovalle due to the fact that she's toothless; he told police it was possible that she might've "gummed" him.

Staff members working in the emergency room on the afternoon of Nov. 22 told officers that the disruptive patient began to form a loogie in her mouth; a registered nurse said he then allegedly told Deovalle, “You better not do it,” before she ultimately spat on his forehead and safety glasses.

At this point, hospital staff placed Deovalle into restraints and a spit mask, which didn't stop her from rebelling once again -

A few moments later, reports say that Deovalle successfully moved the spit mask far enough above her nose so that her mouth was exposed once again; when the paramedic tried to reposition her mask, she spat on his arm.

Records indicate that the first responders involved in this incident both wore scrubs and had identification cards, blatantly proving their status as medical professionals; for the sake of protecting the victims' identities, their names have not been made publicly available in relation to this case.

As a result of the incident, 58-year-old Evangelina Deovalle was booked into the Weld County Jail and now faces two second-degree assault charges.

A pre-trial conference regarding this case has been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. in Weld District Court.
