Now that the holiday season is in the past, the COVID 19 numbers are dropping, school districts have been moving away from the mask mandates and St. Vrain Valley School District is the latest school district to end its current mask mandate.

St. Vrain Valley School District Ends Mask Mandate

For most of the last two school years, most children and staff in public schools have been a part of a mask mandate. It was announced this morning, Feb 15th, 2022, that the Boulder County Board of Health has officially voted to end their indoor mask requirement for public spaces and schools as of this Friday, February 18th. With that, the St. Vrain School Districts Superintendent, Don Haddad, announced that the St. Vrain schools will be updating their policies as well. In a note to parents, Superintendent Haddad said:

Masks will become optional in our schools and buildings for all teachers, staff, and students after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18. In addition to lifting the mask mandate for our schools and buildings, masks will no longer be required for athletics and activities, however students, teachers, staff, and visitors are always welcome to wear a mask if they choose to do so.

Masks will remain to be required on all district transportation though.

Learning and communicating can be challenging on their own, especially for younger kids. I know my little guy, who's five, can be tricky to understand anyway, throw a mask on top of his little voice and it's even tougher. Even with those challenges, are you ok with your kids not wearing masks to school anymore? Will you still have them mask up when around larger groups? It will be interesting to see how this plays out now that the majority of the bigger school districts in the area are changing their protocols.
