It'd be pretty epic to own a chair or cabin from a ski lift in Colorado, and this week, Steamboat Ski Area is giving the public that opportunity.

The popular ski resort is undergoing a significant makeover and has started replacing some of the older lifts. One example is the Christie III, which was installed in 1979. The chairs on this lift are different than most, with foam armrests and padded backs. As time went on, parts were more difficult to find for this lift when it required repairs. Because of that, Christie III was minimally used in recent years and was finally removed altogether.

An online auction currently taking place allows people to bid on 183 seats from the Christie III and Preview chairlifts. Minimum bids for the chairs start at $500.

Additionally, bids can be placed on a select number of cabins from the gondola that was installed in 1986. The bidding for the gondola cabins begins at $2500 each.

The highlight of the auction is a rare medical gondola cabin that's in pristine condition, which starts at $5000. According to 9News, medical gondolas were used to transport an injured person down the slopes but were phased out when ski patrol realized it was easier to just use toboggans. Therefore, this medical gondola has only been used a couple of times in the 80s and has been sitting in storage ever since. Steamboat Resort staff noted that this could be a historic buy for the right bidder, even suggesting that a hospital or dispensary (because of the green cross) might be interested.

The online auction began on May 23 and concludes at 8 p.m. on May 29. Interested bidders can view the listings at steamboat.com/things-to-do/events/chair-auction. The funds that are raised from the auction will be distributed to the resort’s Charitable and Environmental Funds at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.

All chairs and cabins must be picked up in person on June 11 in the Meadows parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon and cannot be stored for additional time, delivered, or shipped.
