Each year, the bill-paying service doxo creates a list that looks at the average monthly bills every state pays.

This year, Colorado ranked as the 8th most expensive state in terms of household bills per month, with an average bill cost of $2,413. This has shown a trend as of late. In last year’s report, Colorado ranked 11th and had an average monthly household bill of $2,251.

Within the study, doxo also gives us a look at the cities that pay the most in monthly bills in the state. Let’s take a look at the top 5 to see what we can draw.

5th Highest Monthly Household Bills in Colorado: Castle Rock

While a recent study by WalletHub places Castle Rock as the best small city in Colorado, it would seem you have to pay the price for the area.

Castle Rock comes in fifth on doxo’s list, with an average monthly household bill of $2,819.

The website BestPlaces, which looks at the cost of living in different cities across America, shows that Castle Rock’s cost of living is 43.6% higher than the national average. The home market in Castle Rock is also extremely expensive, as it is in much of Colorado right now. The typical home in Castle Rock is 102.3% higher than the national average, and 29.7% than the rest of Colorado.

4th Highest Monthly Household Bills in Colorado: Englewood

Taking the fourth place spot is Englewood, Colorado, which doxo notes has an average monthly household bill of $2,843.

In terms of home prices, Englewood sits well above the national average. Home prices are 48.4% more expensive here than in the rest of the country. Amazingly, this is actually cheap in terms of prices in Colorado, with Englewood’s typical home price of $501,900 being 4.8% lower than the state average.

3rd Highest Monthly Household Bills in Colorado: Monument

Monument takes the third spot when it comes to the highest monthly bills with a mark of $2,845.

The town has seen a remarkable population growth, going from about 5,500 people in 2010 to the current mark of 11,759 in 2023.��

Monument’s housing market is also notably expensive. The average home on the market is going for $717,600, which is 112.2% higher than the national average. A house in Monument also is 36.1% more expensive than in the rest of Colorado.

2nd Highest Monthly Household Bills in Colorado: Erie

The city of Erie is second on the list of most expensive monthly bills in the state, with the average monthly household bill coming in at $3,009.

The average home price in Erie is 107.2% higher than the rest of the country, and 32.9% higher than the average in Colorado.

Parker has been given the distinction of the city with the highest average monthly bills in Colorado, coming in at $3,031. Parker also had the highest monthly bills last year, so it has returned to reclaim its throne.

In terms of housing prices, Parker’s is 98% higher than the national average. It is also 27% higher than the rest of Colorado. If you want to rent here as well, the average rent for a two-bedroom unit is $2,150 a month. This is 50.3% higher than the national average, and 23.3% higher than the rest of Colorado.
