COVID-19 Issues Within South Dakota Program Cancels CSU Volleyball’s Season Opener
What was anticipated to be an exciting Friday night for CSU Volleyball's season opener will now have to wait until Saturday afternoon.
CSU Volleyball was slated to launch their 2021 season against the University of South Dakota Friday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. Due to COVID-19 complications within the South Dakota volleyball program, the match has been canceled.
Sources at CSU were expecting a record fan turnout for the match. After 2020 left fans out of Moby Arena and Canvas Stadium, the return of students and fans in the stands was long-awaited.
Friday's game was set to be CSU Volleyball's legendary season opener white out game. The tradition will still stand as tomorrow's match for CSU against Northwestern will now be their official season opener and white out game.
Coincidentally, CSU's conference, the Mountain West, also announced their COVID-19 Game Cancellation Policy today (Aug. 27). The policy states that any Mountain West contest that can't be played because a team has to cancel due to COVID-19 issues, the game will be ruled a forfeit against the team that canceled and will not be rescheduled.
The canceled match between South Dakota and Colorado State has been ruled a no contest.
Colorado State is still slated to play Northwestern Saturday, Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. CSU Football also has their home and season opener next Friday, Sept. 3 against South Dakota State.
