CSU Tight End Trey McBride Named to National Team of the Week
It's no news to anyone in Northern Colorado that Colorado State football tight end Trey McBride has been making waves in college football conversation.
Before the season even started, McBride garnered several nods in the form of national recognition. More recently, McBride has been named to Pro Football Focus's (PFF) National Team of the Week.
McBride took the tight end slot and is one of only two Mountain West players named to the list. Air Force safety Corvan Taylor also made the defensive side of the list.
Prior to the season kick-off on Friday, Sept. 3, McBride has been ringing in the watch list announcements and awards.
In June, McBride was one of eleven Rams named to Phil Steele's College Football Preview All-Mountain West Honors List, taking a spot on the second team list. PFF also named McBride to their preseason All-Mountain West team, which is proving to have been an accurate prediction of the tight end's performance.
The accolades only get more impressive from there. McBride also earned himself a spot on the John Mackey Award Watch List and the Lombardi Award Watch List. Right before the season and school year kicked off, McBride also tabbed a nod on the Senior Bowl Preseason Watch List.
McBride passed up what seemed to be a sure opportunity at the NFL draft to finish out a final season at CSU. The Colorado-born and raised football star is a key component to the Rams offensive line. A component that will be used and sure to be capitalized on as the season continues.
Already, in CSU football's season opener against South Dakota State on Friday, Sept. 3, quarterback Todd Centeio connected with McBride on 13 catches for 116 yards. The Friday night performance was McBrides career-best in catches and the third 100-yard game of his career.
Although the Rams ultimately lost to the Jackrabbits 23-42 in what has been described as a disappointing showing, McBride still solidified himself in Colorado State history as the fifth tight end in school history to surpass 1,000 career receiving yards.
The Rams will have another crack at a non-conference team in front of another home crowd on Saturday, Sept. 11 with kick set for 8 p.m.
