Flying Soon? December Airport Traffic at DIA Up 74% From One Year Ago
While a lot of people chose to stay safe and not fly in December of 2020, that wasn't the case for December 2021 as the passenger traffic at DIA was up almost 75%.
DIA Passenger Traffic Up Almost 75% In December 2021
I remember flying in February 2020, right before the pandemic started. Denver International Airport was as crazy as ever. Just weeks later, the COVID 19 Pandemic would grind DIA's passenger traffic. We canceled all of our plans for most of the year as we waited like most others around the world to learned more about exactly what we were dealing with. We took a fast weekend trip in November and Denver International Airport was a ghost town with many open seats on the plane. Flying so much out of DIA we're just used to crazy crowds in terminals, trains, and on the planes themselves so it was a different experience for sure. That wouldn't last too long though.
According to Denver 7 and this report from the Denver International Airport at FlyDenver.com, 58,828 passengers flew out of DIA in December 2021. That's an almost 75% increase from the number of passengers who flew in December of 2020. The record for traveling passengers at DIA in December was back in 2019 when they had roughly 69 million passengers come through their doors to fly. What changed?
Obviously, as vaccinations rolled out all over the country, people started to gain the confidence to fly again. You must wear masks at all times throughout DIA as well as on all airplanes which adds a layer of security as well. As far as larger "hub" airports like DIA, Denver was one of the tops on the list of recovering airport markets worldwide.
