Get Ready, Is Ringling Bros Coming Back To Colorado After 5 Years?
The "Greatest Show on Earth," Ringling Brothers, and Barnum and Bailey Circus is ready to make a comeback with one major change. Will Colorado be on the tour?
Ringling Brothers, and Barnum and Bailey Circus Coming To Colorado?
Things in 2022 are different from when I was growing up. Really different. Not just because of the pandemic, but because of the way the world is. The "cancel culture" is real, not just for people, but for events altogether.
As a kid, my dad would take my brother and me to the Denver Coliseum to see the Greatest Show on Earth. The clowns, which as an adult I now hate, the tricks, and the star of the show, the animals. As I grew up and had kids of my own, I took my girls to the circus every year, and I even took my son when he was one. As I started taking the kids though, the animal rights teams were out in front of the Coliseum in full force. Masks, scary displays, picketers, handing out flyers, things had no doubt changed.
As folks like myself became more educated on the way these animals were allegedly being treated, the pressure was put on not just Ringling Brothers, but the entire industry to change their ways. It eventually led to The Greatest Show on Earth raising the curtains for the very last time about five years ago. Until now.
Feld Entertainment confirmed on "TODAY" that after five years away, the Ringling Brothers, and Barnum and Bailey Circus is back in a whole new way. Julie Feld Grossman, who is a producer on the new and improved circus told TODAY that there will not be any animals touring in this new version.
In regards to the old animal and creepy clown shows of the past, Kenneth Feld, another show producer said:
"That’s the past, and the great thing is that we’ve had a blank piece of paper to reimagine"
During the pandemic, they've had plenty of time to plan and organize their new ideas. They've also auditioned over 1,000 different performers from all over the world but only about 100 will make it to the actual show. We should expect more of a production with some of the most amazing acts you've ever seen. "Ringling" hopes to be on the road again by late 2023 and a multi-day stop in Colorado will almost definitely be on their list.
