Six days after entering hospice services, the family of long-time Denver sportscaster, Les Shapiro, announced that he has unfortunately passed away.

According to a statement on Shapiro's Facebook page, he spent his last four days surrounded by immediate family members at his home in Arizona. Although it was a tragic situation, his family expressed that they spent his final moments joking around, telling stories, and sharing the heartfelt messages that friends and fans left the well-known multimedia personality on his social media pages.

The 65-year-old died during the afternoon of Saturday, January 29.

Shapiro was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in 2018, although the legendary TV/radio host admitted he'd never smoked a day in his life.

The Shapiro family will be sitting shiva for the next three days in Scottsdale, AZ. They plan on holding small gatherings in Denver and Chicago over the coming months as well to honor the life of Shapiro.

Shapiro was originally born in Illinois but moved to Colorado to pursue his media career in the 1980s. Throughout his seasoned sportscasting and reporting career, he held positions at CBS4, ESPN Radio, FOX 31, and Mile High Sports. The legendary broadcaster was known for covering the Broncos during much of this time and called both of the team's Super Bowl victories. Shapiro also emceed countless non-profit events throughout his years in Colorado.

His circle of friends included many notable Colorado figures, including John Elway, Mike Shanahan, and Vic Lombardi. He discussed his relationship with Shanahan two years ago in the video below.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Les and his entire family as they navigate through this difficult time.
