New Northern Colorado Law Enforcement Training Center Opens in Loveland
A new, state-of-the-art facility has officially opened in Loveland, giving law enforcement of Northern Colorado a dedicated place to train, advance their skills and prepare for the daily situations they may encounter.
The Northern Colorado Law Enforcement Training Center took eight years to build, but was a much-needed resource for the area. Prior to its completion, many individuals from law enforcement agencies in Northern Colorado were sent down to Adams County for training. The new building will now serve as a regional training facility for Fort Collins Police Services, the Loveland Police Department, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and Front Range Community College POST Academy. Other agencies can also rent out the facility.
According to Fort Collins Police Services, the 43-acre, world-class facility includes an indoor shooting range, driving pad and track and multiple classrooms.
The 1.4-mile driving track and 5-acre skills pad allows for opportunities to safely train in a variety of vehicle maneuvers, as well as practice high-speed scenarios. The 50-yard tactical range gives law enforcement the chance to integrate different vehicles and structures, plus adjust the lighting, so that they can train for diverse potential situations and environments. All of the classrooms and conference spaces are equipped with high-tech audio, video and wireless connectivity resources. According to The Coloradoan, each of the classrooms were named in honor of officers who died in the line of duty, including Joseph Allen and Charles Brockman of Fort Collins Police Services.
More additions are in the works for the training center, such as a service shop, as well as a dedicated space for K-9 officers to hone their skills.
Part of the project was paid for between Fort Collins and Loveland, who agreed to split $18.5 million of the cost. An additional $1 million grant was brought in from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.
The NCLETC is located at 5300 Boyd Lake Avenue, bordering the Northern Colorado Regional Airport, in Loveland.
