A few weeks ago, I traveled to Las Vegas for the first time. Upon arrival, I could not believe my eyes. Incessant neon, tickets that turn into money, smoking indoors — what is this place?! I came back from the Sin City a changed woman.

Okay, okay, I'm slightly exaggerating. My trip was fun, but I largely stuck to virtual gambling and didn't bet more than $100. I won't be a casino regular, but the experience did leave me asking the question: does gambling like that exist here in Colorado?

The answer is yes. In fact, there are four main gambling destinations in the Centennial State: Black Hawk, Central City, Cripple Creek, and Ignacio.

Black Hawk and Central City are adjacent former mining towns that have become gambling hotspots (the latter is even known as the richest square mile on earth). It takes about an hour and 45 minutes to get there from Northern Colorado, and there's a free shuttle that travels between the two towns, making it perfect for a quick visit.

Located near Colorado Springs, Cripple Creek is a little farther from the Front Range. However, visitcripplecreek.com says the town is home to historic mines and 24-hour gambling — not a bad place for a weekend excursion.

If you're really looking to travel, make the seven-hour drive to Ignacio. There's only one casino there, but it has a hotel, dining, and stunning views of southwest Colorado.
