Bagpipe players and the Colorado National Guard greeted Poudre School District students as they picked up supplies this week at Mountain Schools.

Such is life in 2020.

A National Guard checkpoint had been put in place as the Cameron Peak Fire and Lewstone Fire burn nearby. As cars were allowed to pass through, they were also greeted by musicians performing bagpipes.

While the wildfires have caused evacuations, school is continuing on — as if the COVID-19 pandemic hadn't made things weird enough. PSD is operating completely remote through at least mid-October.

The Fort Collins-based school district operates three mountain schools:

  • Livermore Elementary
  • Red Feather Elementary
  • Stove Prairie Elementary
